VPN extensions in Google Chrome
VPN extensions, actually proxies, are gaining popularity in recent years due to the growing number of website blockages in many countries. If your internet provider does not allow you to access a particular address or even openly warns that access is closed, you have to look for alternative ways to visit the necessary resource on the web. The easiest option is to use a special extension that routes your traffic through its own servers, thus bypassing the restrictions of ISP.
If you often need to visit several blocked resources, ideally, the applied extension should be able to open only the necessary domain addresses “through itself”, using a “whitelist” of sites, rather than all traffic, thereby slowing it down.
VPN Extension Search Algorithm
Unfortunately, the specificity of free proxying VPN extensions for Google Chrome is such that rarely will any extension that you liked once work stably and not be abundant in advertisements, pop-up messages, and requests to purchase premium for quite a long time.
More often than not, with gaining popularity, speed is lost because not all services will want to serve free users by connecting new servers and paying for traffic. To search for a new extension, we recommend doing the following:
- Go to the Web Store, type VPN or proxy in the search bar at the top right, and press Enter
- Read recent reviews of the extension you liked and install it if everything is fine with them
- Make sure that if you have multiple VPN extensions installed, only one of them is enabled, as there may be conflicts in operation when several are enabled simultaneously.
Ready-made Selection of VPN
Among the free extensions, we have chosen several reliable, or rather time-tested ones. Unfortunately, many of those that we tested in the very first version of the article simply disappeared from the Web Store after some time or stopped working correctly.
