Bookmarks
It’s almost impossible to imagine an Internet user of any level without an accumulated bookmarks base in the web browser, as everyone has favorite websites visited every day. Google Chrome offers from its features both classic bookmarks, which will be discussed further, and more specific ones – shortcuts and reading list.
Downloads
It’s quite difficult to imagine a modern browser without a file downloading module. In Chrome, it doesn’t differ much from its main competitors both visually and in terms of functionality. In this article, we’ll look at the main aspects of interacting with this module, where users often encounter difficulties.
Default browser
Any browser developer understandably wants their product to be the default in your operating system. After all, this determines whether it will open links from other applications. Chrome suggests making it the default browser during initial setup and then immediately after the next launch. If necessary, it’s quite difficult to skip this operation. In this article, we will indicate the other available methods.
Clearing
In Google Chrome, there is a global data clearing module for clearing history, passwords, cache, and more. With it, you can quickly and conveniently remove necessary information either for the entire duration of browser usage, starting from installation, or for a specific period – a day, a week, a month. The purposes are trivial – erasing unwanted traces of web surfing if you forgot to use incognito, and optimizing disk space.
Start page
The start page in a browser most often means one that opens immediately when the program is launched. Typically, this role is taken by one of the search engines. And Chrome, of course, supports such a function. The problem arises when you also don’t want to lose previously opened tabs. In this material, we will consider several options for convenient organization of work with the start page in Google Chrome.
Home button
Chrome has a feature that adds a home button to the left of the address bar. Depending on the settings, it can be in three states – disabled, when the button is hidden, leading to a blank new tab, or opening a pre-defined URL address.
Settings
No complex application can be perfectly configured from the start, from both the developer’s and the user’s perspectives. In our view, some options can significantly enhance the convenience and speed of working in Chrome. We will cover them in this article.
Ad Blocking
The word “advertising” hardly needs an introduction and is often perceived on websites as something quite annoying. Some users may browse a site’s content almost unaware of the marketing information, especially if it’s cleverly color-coordinated. However, even static contextual blocks can be discouraging for some. By default, Chrome doesn’t have ad-blocking capabilities, but installing just one extension can work wonders.
Address bar
The address bar is the starting point for most Chrome users’ activities. Here, depending on the situation, will be displayed the URL, information about the used protocol, saved passwords, bookmark creation, etc.
Notifications
The notification mechanism seems undoubtedly useful at first glance. It appeared in 2015, specifically in version 42 of Google Chrome. The principle is simple – a website offers you to subscribe to content updates, event creations, or receiving any other similar information and can send it to you at the right moment. But this feature is only useful with good intentions. Since about the fall of 2017, more and more people began to complain about completely irrelevant notifications with a lot of advertisements appearing in the bottom right corner of the browser window.
Full screen
Full-screen mode was created to utilize the maximum space of the monitor screen. It is available for most operating systems and their applications. Google Chrome also supports working with all toolbars disabled.
Reinstalling
If you need to reinstall your operating system, and consequently Google Chrome, any user would want to keep all accumulated bookmarks, history, password database, and, of course, settings.
Profile
Chrome allows you to work with different profiles in one browser in a similar way to how it is done in any operating system. The main task is convenient separation of settings, bookmarks, history, etc. This is especially relevant if you have 2 different profiles for work and home, or if more than one person uses the same computer. This allows you not to mix everything together, and each user can enable synchronization for their Google account.
Sync
The synchronization mechanism in Google Chrome can be useful for several reasons – an up-to-date copy of your bookmarks, settings, history will be stored in the “cloud” in case of program reinstallation or system disk failure. Not to mention the banal possibility of convenient work in a single profile simultaneously on several types of devices. To start using this Chrome feature, just log in to your Google account and enable synchronization, but let’s take it step by step.
Extensions
An extension in Google Chrome is a software module that enhances or modifies its functionality. It’s particularly pleasing that the majority of these additions are developed by ordinary community members, leading to a constant increase in their number independently of the browser creators.
